Originally from Manizales, Colombia, Ana María has been a resident of the metro-Atlanta area since age 12. She received her B.B.A. in Marketing, cum laude, from The University of Georgia in 2004. She obtained her J.D., cum laude and with Pro Bono distinction, from the Georgia State University College of Law in 2009. She is a Staff Attorney in DeKalb State Court. In addition to her work as an attorney, she has worked tirelessly over the last four years to establish and run the Georgia Latino Law Foundation (“GLLF”), the only organization in the state dedicated to substantively and intentionally supporting the Georgia Latino legal community pipeline. Since its inception, the GLLF has assisted over a hundred Latino/a law students through its pre-law and law school preparation program, Leadership Academy and Mentoring Program, and numerous other academic and professional development opportunities. Since 2015, the GLLF has also awarded over $70,000 in Fellowships to Latino/a law students working for legal non-profits.
Ana María dedicates her time outside of work to various legal and community organizations. She currently serves on the boards of the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association, the DeKalb Bar Association, and the Lamar Inn of Court. Currently, she is the only Latina serving on the State Bar of Georgia’s Board of Governors. Her leadership in the community has been recognized through her selection to prestigious programs such as LEAD Atlanta and the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Millennial Advisory Panel, and through awards such as the 2019 Commitment to Equality Award (Committee to
Promote Inclusion in the Profession of the State Bar of Georgia, May 2019), Latinx Community Impact Award (Emory Law School Latin American Law Students Association, April 2019), Top 50 Most Influential Hispanics in Georgia (Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, September 2018), Atlanta’s Most Inspiring Stories (Voyage ATL Magazine, March 2019), 40 Under 40 Award (Georgia State University, Inaugural Class, 2018), Law and Justice Award, “Most Powerful and Influential Women In Law” (Women Works Media Group, 2017), 40 Under 40 Award (Atlanta Business Chronicle, Class of 2016), and the Award of Achievement for Outstanding Service to the Public (State Bar of Georgia YLD, June 2012).
Ana Maria is married to Mario Martinez, Jr. Together, they are the proud parents of Liliana (7) and Elena (3).
